What is Paternity?
Paternity refers to a parent-child relationship in situations where the parties were not married.
I am the father of a child so how do I get a Child Custody and Child Visitation Order?
There are a couple different avenues to obtaining these Orders. The first one is negotiating with the other parent or the other attorney. The second one is preparing a Motion to file with the Court to request Court Orders. As part of this Motion, Family Court Services may be scheduled. Family Court Services allows both parties to sit down with a neutral Mediator to try to come to an agreement. If no agreement is reached, the Mediator will issue a Family Court Services Report and Recommendation. This Recommendation will be sent to both parties and to the Court for review.
Court Orders relating to Child Custody and Child Visitation are crucial and proscribe how the children will be shared. This can affect the children’s place of residence, school, and other aspects of the child’s life.
